Sources for Bartop/Countertop Cabinet kit?
« on: November 12, 2014, 11:34:37 am »
Hey everyone, wanted to build a bartop/countertop arcade for my nephew.

Do you know of any sources which are reasonably priced under $200 for a 1 player cabinet kit?

I'm just looking for the cabinet kit itseld without internals or controls.

Found some online but some were overly priced (>$300) and some were sold as a full setup which is not what I'm looking for.

I am definitely not a woodworker so cutting the sides etc. is not an option for me.

Thanks!
-Charles

Take a look through the Retail vendors sub forum and you'll see a few options depending on where you are located -- ie. assuming you are in US (Rick's Custom if in Canada is similarly priced) Haruman's ( http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,130522.0.html ) has a 1 player bartop kit for $140 ( + $10 for slot cutting if you want to use t-molding, and +$40 If you want it to include the plexi for the marquee and monitor bezel) so less than $200 including the plexi and T-molding slot cut.

Should have gone to the Houston show... we've clearly hit peak bartop.  Nobody was playing the things and I didn't see a single sale made.

Is there anywhere in the Uk that sells the same as im after exactly the same for my nephew and im useless at woodwork.

Ebay seems quite expensive what seems like a few panels of wood cut to size.

Thanks for the leads, I will hit up Haruman, It looks to be exactly what I am looking for.

Much appreciated!

I checked out the site. Those are very nice. Do you just grab a 60 in one, jpac, and power supply and all is well? Or a raspberry pi sorta thing too.

Can go whichever way you want -- 60 in 1 would work or so would a small format PC system running MAME Or if sticking to older games the Pi should work as well.

I bought one of Haruman's kits and love it.  I had a desktop laying around, so I just de-cased it and used that with MAME.  I have a power strip where everything turns on when the computer is on.  The only thing coming out the back is that cord.
