Recommendations- Steam games that play well with Logitech MOMO
« on: November 08, 2014, 03:50:59 pm »
So my nephew has gone deep into PC gaming with Steam and I am considering passing a hardly used Logitech MOMO on to him for Christmas. To my knowledge he hasn't played many modern driving games- any suggestions of ones I should gift him on Steam that work with the MOMO without much of a fuss? Trying to avoid too much post-gift technical support.

edit: with a bit of research it looks like Burnout Paradise has a preset for the MOMO. Will probably start there but still love to hear suggestions!

Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

It has as much support as any other wheel.
(if the game supports a wheel, the MOMO will work)

Dirt & Grid would be on the top of my list

The need for speed series, except for "the run".  It's an oddball.  It has quicktime events that you have to press random buttons for.  It's difficult when using a controller other than an xbox controller.

Ridge Racer Unbounded supposedly only supports xbox controllers, but in my testing it seems to be hard-coded for the MOMO.
(you can't remap in the game.  You can remap in Logitech profiler, but all the buttons are where I would want them anyway)

Most games will work fine.
The list of games that DON'T WORK may be shorter:
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing
Fuel
Most motorcycle or atv games
(these can be made to work with the x360ce workaround, but sometimes it's a PITA to configure)

dude

I wish I knew the answer to this better.

Consider this... humblebundle.com has a racing bundle right now.  Also, Amazon.com has Grid Auto Sport for $20.00  Fairly low price point to entry.

PS. Burnout Paradise was pretty fun for $5, although I don't know if you can get that deal now or not.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions. I guess trying to get the Sega PC racers to work with a wheel made me paranoid.  ;D

I've used a MOMO with all the PC versions of all the Sega arcade racers. (Daytona usa, sega rally, sega touring car)
Pedals need to be marked combined, but I don't remember any other issues.

I remember Sega Rally Revo being a pain, but I got it sorted after a few tries.

Very old wheels like the Microsoft Sidewinder and original Logitech Formula Force should be avoided.
They were made before there was any standardized way of handling the ffb.
The ffb will only work with the very few old games that were made specifically for them.
(I have my doubts about whether drivers exist for newer OSs also)

not sure if its in steam but crazy taxi 3 is good too. It has crazy taxi and crazy taxi 2 in there as well(although they are remade). The downside it that it doesnt have the original soundtrack but thats easy to change. the music files are .ogg so you can put the original soundtrack in (Crazy taxi without the offsprings is not crazy taxi, yayayayaya)

Yeah the PC version of Crazy Taxi 3 is what finally convinced me to go a console route for most of my racing needs.  :banghead: Although I think I just read on the forum that someone had luck with it, even with tons of help I never figured that one out.
