J-Pac Jamma & MAME?
« on: October 29, 2014, 08:54:08 pm »
I'm looking to build a cabinet for my own use. What I was wondering is it possible to wire J-PAC for both JAMMA on a PCB and MAME on a PC. I'll lay out an example for you so what I'm asking will make sense.

I'm a Neo Geo fan and I was wanting to wire in the MVS PCB (if you're not familiar the MVS supports JAMMA.)  As well as have a PC in the cab for MAME. Would this at all be possible in anyway?

I'm just trying to plan this out the best I can before starting my project trying to get as much information as possible. Looked around and haven't seen this done was just a thought of mine. Thanks for reading and if you reply thanks for your time.  :)

you would just take the jamma loom off the jpac and plug it into the neogeo mobo, or use a 2 in 1 switcher.

EDIT: Why not just run the neogeo games in mame?

If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Look for a "jamma switcher".

Make sure your JAMMA connector is keyed if you're going to be unplugging and replugging it from a PCB to a JPAC.

Ask chopperthedog about his DIY relay switcher:

He's running a PC and JAMMA (for his JROK Multi-Williams), and switches between the two. I've yet to try this myself, but I plan on giving it a shot in the future.

Just be mindful, MVS Jamma has a few slight additions to the pinout:

Thanks for all the replies! Seems I've got even more research ahead of me! Which isn't a bad thing. I'm quite new to the arcade building thing, read a lot of how to's, a few guides here and there. Its just that "Hey wouldn't it be cool to have an arcade cabinet in my home" bug that I'm guessing most of us have!

I was under the impression that video would be the main issue which the use of the video switcher would be a good start. (Not counting for Audio) But assuming the buttons are closely the same, and if I'm reading the diagram provided by opt2not correctly they are.

As for just running Neo Geo games in MAME, Call me old fashioned but I like carts! Also well there are some compatibility issues with a few Neo Geo games. Also this was a more of is this possible for down the road kinda thing as well.

First experiences in a community this one seems good. I'll be sticking around to learn some things!
