All - this is a heads up to my recent experience with Maximus/Xgaming...
I built my first MAME machine several weeks ago and as I got closer to finishing I was looking at MALA and Mamewah for front ends but I was wanting to try out as many as I could - open to whatever worked. I ended up downloading the Maximus demo to give it a try after watching the videos on their website. The lack of configuration sold me (since I was able to get me and my kids up and playing almost immediately) so about 2 weeks into my 30 day trial (Sept 24) I purchased a registration code. It has now been more than 30 days and I have not received any code.
Now I admit I've read all the posts saying don't be surprised if it takes more than the 24 hours that their website claims. No problem. I purposely bought it with 2 weeks left on my demo to have this buffer. I appreciate this community and have no problem being flexible as needed since I know a lot of these types of businesses are hobbies, etc.
I sent a reply to my order confirmation asking for the code on Sept 29 - getting a little concerned since I only had a week left on my demo. Checking my SPAM folder was becoming a daily occurrence. On Oct 6 my demo ended and I was dead in the water (and under pressure from my kids to get back up and running). Over the next few days I got MALA going and everyone was happy again - but still no Maximus code.
I escalated to a Paypal claim on Oct 10. To which XGaming responded to with the word "code" for my tracking, but still no actual registration code. Paypal eventually rejected the claim because the virtual nature of the purchase - codes aren't eligible for coverage. I knew this but hoped the communication from PayPal would at least be taken more seriously. It wasn't. On Oct 13 I emailed XGaming to just refund and cancel my order and still no response.
I now have MALA running and everyone is happy. Maximus is dead for the last 3 weeks without the registration code. Xgaming is still running a website selling a product they have no intention to actually provide and with no repercussions (from PayPal anyway) when they don't provide it. As great as the product may be, or as nice as the people may be, that's theft. A refund is the only thing I'm interested in at this point.
Cliffs:
Tried/liked Maximus, bought registration code
Never received code, demo expired, left high and dry
Got MALA working, 30+ days later still no code/response from Xgaming. Paypal rejected claim since they don't cover registration codes.
Seeking a refund if they ever respond.
Good luck all and watch out...
