Causes of magnetization

Today I've 'borrowed' a 28" TV from my parent's sitting room because I felt like watching something really spectacular with my ArcadeVGA. I've placed it by my computer case and I've noticed an intense magnetization on the top left corner. When I placed the TV back in the sitting room and I turned it on, the magnetization was not there. What could be the cause of it? Maybe the power suply, the motherboard, the little sattelite speaker, the lamp, my collection of CDs, the Iron Maiden flag...?

I'm guessing one of the cables running behind the tv.   I see your powerstrip is on that side, if your power cables happen to run in the right spot...

Unfortunatly your photography hid your "rat's nest" of cables that is the likely cause, so all I can do is guess

If you try this again start playing with positions of things.  Could be any number of things, as you have a of electronics there.  (most of it I wouldn't think would be strong enough but who knows)  Could even be the forgotten magnet under your CD collection of something, so look hard.

The power supply of the PC is right there.  All kinds of magnetic coils and chokes in there.  A transformer too, IIRC.

is it just an optical illusion, or is the tv leaning back? I know some tvs freak out when they're not level.

I reckon it's most likely the cooling fan in your computer case.

It's leaning back. I put an insecticide spray below as ledge. XD

The computer power supply sounds likely to me too.  What you can do is start turning random things in place and see if the field changes.  The way magnetic fields are shaped, if you turn the object generating it along any axis except one (the axis of the field itself), the picture on the TV should change slightly.  (So at least you don't have to remove everything from the shelves - just turn them in a couple directions and watch the TV.)

There's one other possibility - it's possible that the thing causing the distortion is that your space _lacks_ a magnetic field, specifically one that was present while the TV was upstairs, but the tube has adjusted to internally.  (I think TVs actually do this somehow...)  I once had a screen that looked fine where it was sitting, but when I moved it anywhere else it had a big colored spot.  Only putting it back in its original position fixed it.

I think the fact that the tv is leaning back makes it easier to get discolored....

I think the power supply might not be the main cause, but the cooling fans are.... (especially if you have those power supply that has like 3 fans right there...)

Yeah, sometimes TVs (and arcade monitors too) simply do not like certain spots in the house. I had a lot of problems with this at one place I lived, different games would get it in different places, but I finally managed to get them all properly placed.

Where's the speaker?  power supply could do it too.
