Tekken PCB missing capacitors
« on: October 11, 2014, 08:22:42 am »
Hi, im trying to fix this old Tekken board that has some missing capacitors. Can someone that has this board tell me what the values are for the fallowing capacitors? They are on the top board and are labeled, C11, C18, C2, C5, C3, C62, C59, C60, C61 and C53. Basically every capacitor on this top board is either missing or the top is scratched up. Tried searching the net for a hires picture of the top board, but no luck. I hope someone can help me out, really want to get this fixed.

those are surface mounted capacitors. you can pretty easily swap them out for standard through hole electrolytics.

value is written on the top

first line is typically not interesting.

second line is the value in microfarads (for example "100" is 100uF) if there is a space between digits "2 2" then it is 2.2uF
third line is the rating in volts ( for example "10" is 10 volts)

the black marked side is the NEGATIVE side of the polarity.

that said, is there anything WRONG with the board...I wouldn't mess with them unless you have an issue and you have explored other avenues first. It's very easy to tear off a pad holding one of those caps on.

I'd check for a low or bum power supply and dirty corroded connectors first before tackling this.

namco boards of this era have a problem with the caps. and if they are missing the board will not run.

the 3 small ones together are for your RGB the others do other things.

you can swap the top board with a soul edge or tekken 1/2 game the bottom board contains the roms, the top board is the system 11 video board. it does the video, without the caps no video!

if it looks like the caps were desoldered the board was most likley dead and someones nicked them to fix another!

if you can't zoom in on that pic i'll dig the boards out and let you know what they are!
Hack or Restore, always hardcore.
