Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good set of PC speakers with a remote volume knob??  I am starting to assemble my SlikStik arcade cab, and it has holes for 5 1/4" speakers.  I have seen a lot of people go with the Sony Xplod series  (kevsteele), so I might go with those to fill the holes.  However, I guess I still need a way to power them, and I wouldnt mind adding a subwoofer.........

So I figure that I will buy a good set of PC speakers (with sub), ditch the "speakers", hook the speaker wires up to the Xplod's, and away I go.  I would like something with a remote volume control knob, or a knob that I can easily desolder, add some extension wires, and mount the volume knob where I see fit.

I really dont want a remote control (IR or RF), I just want a knob that I can discreetly mount somewhere on the cab.

Anybody got any recommendations for a set of PC speakers that will fit my bill?
Thanks,
FJ

I bought a set of these off newegg for $17 shipped for the minicab nannuu is building, haven't tested them out but I figure they'll be OK for the purpose at hand, and the cord is nice and long, 6' I think.

Creative Labs also makes a bunch of 2.1, 4.1, 5.1 sets with wired remotes.  I have a 2.1 set that I picked up from CompUSA for $20 or $30, can't remember which.  Remote is on a 1.5x3.5 base with a 1.5" diameter on/off/volume knob.  They sound real nice too.

Go Creative Labs 2.1, pretty good power and sound and very long volume knob cable length.  They have a good rma return policy/ warranty.

I own two pairs of cambridge soundworks 2.1.... I believe it is the same model as the creative labs.

Sound was fairly decent.. and it has a long volume knob.. I would say at least 6foot if not longer..

Take a look here:
http://www.creative.com/speakers/config/2.1/

If you look at the images.. many of them have the wired volume knob.  You can drive down to any bestbuy/compusa and take a look... they probably carry them..

I used speakers similar to these (can't find a picture of the actual ones I used):

I had them in the old parts cabinet because the volume control was worn out.  It would pop and full of static whenever you adjusted the volume.  I had ripped out the amp board and put that in the cab (with the volume already set) connected to the cab speakers.  I recently desoldered the volume control from the board and bought a new potentiometer and knob from Radio Shack and wired that to the board (on really long wires) that way I have an external volume control.

In the pictures the volume knob is on the left, the switch for the switched outlet is in the middle (kills all power to cab) and last but not least is the momentary button as the power button for the pc on the right.

Just another option:
I'm running a pair of Monsoon MH502 flat panel speakers w/ sub at my desk.
They use what they call a "puck" which has a volume control and a mute button,
connected to long wires.
To me they sound great, and you can usually find them cheap on ebay.
