Sprayer vs Roller
« on: October 05, 2014, 12:00:48 pm »
I thought I would starta separate thread on the topic of painting. Some might have already read my other thread about helping a friend paint his cab. Well, he is expecting a pristine finish.  I'm not bad at painting with a roller but looking at my paint job of my own work, I have some roller/lap marks ..visible at an angle against a bright light.  I told and showed my friend my job and i think he is expecting a perfect smooth no mark finish :p So here's a question:  especially using dark paint color such as  black satin and a roller, is it expected to see some roller/lap marks?   Maybe I terribly suck at painting  :dunno

I mention to use of a sprayer for a more or near perfect finish but I don't think a sprayer is any easier right?

If he is expecting it to look like laminate, he's going to have to use laminate.

That said, I bought one of these to get some painting done quickly around the house:

If that's what you're thinking of using, you should know this:
It spits paint more than sprays it (doesn't matter how it's thinned).  Everything I used it on ended up with a textured surface.
I was happy with it for the purposes I was using it for, but I would not spray an arcade cabinet with it.
The more expensive setups that use bigger pumps or an air tank might do a better job.

Sprayed black enamel over sprayed primer has always been best for me.

my next cab project in a few weeks will force me to get the preval system or try the thinned out roller trick.
