Driving Controlls with Oscar Spinner?
« on: December 12, 2003, 11:09:27 am »
I want to make a driving cab using an oscar spinner connected to a arcade wheel like on Sprint, I know it plays 360o (degree) driving games in mame (sprint etc) great, but will it play pc driving games also? I HATE pc steering wheels, especially force feedback ones, whoever thought clamping a wheel to your desk would work is an idiot, playing a driving game is a waste! The wheel always pops off! As tight as I try, it slipswith the jerking of the wheel. Force feedback SUCKS! It yanks your flimsy logitech wingman wheel like crazy. Driving games need tough steel or plastic in a secure cab to be fun so you can abuse the wheel and do hard turns etc.
Which brings me back to the question; can I use a 360 wheel in games made for windows and a 270o degree wheel? Will it work? It works with my mouse and that has unlimited left or right etc., why not using an oscar spinner then, which is just a mouse restricted to left right? Anyone try using an oscar spinner for non full spin 360o games?
Thanks!

A spinner can be used for driving games... however... Oscars spinner shaft may be too thin to be able to support the stress of a heavy wheel.

You might want to make a spinner using a larger shaft and rollerblade bearings for driving use.

OSCAR used to sell steering controls, but he discontinued them just before I was going to buy some.

I ended up buying a pair of Pole Position wheels from eBay for $20.00, but I haven't hooked them up yet.
