What size carriage bolts for controls?

What size carriage bolts do you guys use for the joysticks, trackballs, etc. ?  I went to home depot, and they all looked HUGE compared to what I had seen used.

That's right, the smallest HomeDepot carries is 1/4", which is way larger than you're looking for.

I would say a 10-24  2" bolt is your best bet, and you can find those at a local bolt/screw shop if you have one in your area.

Also , if that's not an option, another bolt you might want to use for a nice appearance is a Stainless or Chrome ButtonHead bolt. Those can be found at any Custom AutoParts shop.

Commercial arcade games use 10-24 by 1" long carriage bolts for the joysticks mounted on metal control panels and 1-1/2" long ones when used on wood panels.

Trackballs mount with 10-24 by 3" long carriage bolts.

My local hardware store has the correct game bolts. So skip home depot and try a normal hardware store.

I had the same trouble.  I couldn't find any long enought for my trackball.

I ended up using normal screws that came with a butterfly / flip open when you get them past the drywall screw kit....

BobRoberts has them pretty cheap.  I was waiting until my next order to get some real ones.
