Fix it Felix Help
« on: August 14, 2014, 09:46:06 pm »
I'm trying to wrap up the setup of my FIFJr PC that will be going into my new cab build.  I'm trying to get FIFJR to run on my vertically oriented monitor but I can't get it to work right.  I'm using the Disney version with the Howard_Casto  FIFJ.exe wrapper for Free Play and HSS.  When my monitor is horizontal it runs perfectly, even fullscreen.  However when I run it vertically, the game is shifted to the right and is too tall for the screen.  I've tried everything I can figure out.  The only way I can get this to work is to have the video card set to horizontal and rotate the FIFJ when I launch it full screen.  Driving me crazy.  This is even before I try to launch it via a front end (chose Hyperspin for this machine).

I've tried two different video cards and both are doing the same thing.   I've also tried iRotate to see if that helps but still a problem.

I even tried to just run Windows horizontally and run all the games rotated but I can't figure out how to get Hyperspin to rotate on launch.  I know I must be missing something easy but can't figure it out.

Any advice?

I'll have to wait until I get home to see what my settings are. But, I was confused about how your monitor & desktop are set up. You have your monitor rotated to a portrait/vertical orientation. And you also have you desktop set to as portrait to match, yes?

I have a very similar problem actually. It's shifted slightly to the right side when I have my monitor vertical and launch the game full screen. I have everything rotated in Windows, but the problem still happened even if I had the game rotate instead of the desktop.

I wasn't able to find a solution, but instead just used Howards wrapper to launch the game at a larger size, but not quite full screen. This means it's not as big as it could be and there's some black around it all - but better then part of the game not showing at all.

If you find a solution, I'd be interested to hear it. If it helps, the computer it's doing it on is Win 7, Intel graphics. A few years old.

That's exactly my setup too.  Windows 7 with both game and desktop rotated.  Frustrating because all my make games I've tested work perfectly.  Its a shame because my cab is going to be a fix it Felix.

I'd like to try a different version but dont know how to get one.

Ack, sorry. I got distracted this weekend. I'll try to remember to check my setup tonight.

As an FYI, I'm running my monitor/tv in portrait (flipped) mode. I'm using a bezel on mine, so I'm not sure if my settings will help. but, here are my settings for the wrapper:

I still need to tweak the brightness of the bezel, but here is what it looks like on my cab:

I actually had trouble with this as well.  Unfortunately I haven't messed with my pacman cab in a while and I don't think I ever fully resolved it.

The issue isn't with my wrapper, I believe it's the game itself.

I was able to get mine to run pretty close at 200% also, but since it wasn't fullscreen when I launched it from Hyperspin it came up behind the FE.

Yeah Howard I am pretty sure this is an issue with the main program, not your wrapper.  I've done so many tests and tweaks honestly I'm a little lost on what helped or hurt and where the problem is.  I need to spend a couple more hours testing out all the different issues to know 100% where the problem was.  I was hoping even if the problem is with the main app, since you have the wrapper running so well horizontally that a fix vertically wouldn't be too tough.

One thing I wanted to test but didn't have the right equipment was using a different connector.

On the PC with the problem, the computer is using VGA out, but the monitor is DVI only. So I had to use an adapter to convert. I wonder if using straight DVI or straight VGA would make any difference? How are you connected?

The only reason I thought of that is because the other PCs I've tested on are all VGA. Could resolution have anything to do with it? This monitor is 1200x1600. The other computers I've tested on are a good deal lower.

I can't imagine that would have any affect on this. But, stranger things... :)

It might actually.  The game was kind of haphazardly built, so it might not behave at certain resolutions unrotated as it doesn't use a true fullscreen mode.

I used VGA on an onboard video card first, then added a different card with a DVI connector on it.  Used the DVI to VGA adapter to run to the same monitor.  The resolution used is 1024x1280 vertical.
