Question about power to a discs of tron joystick
« on: August 01, 2014, 08:17:21 am »
I picked up a nice old controller for my cabinet a few days ago, possibly from Xenophobe but it'll work nicely with DOT.   Anyway, my question is about powering the lights in the two buttons  - can anyone please shed any light on how much power these will need and possibly which terminals I should connect to?  I know, its a bit of a noob question.

Cheers!

The switches indicate 2v max, so you'll need to use a couple of resistors.  Start with about 350 - 400 ohms with a 5v source and see how they look.  If they seem too bright, use bigger resistors.

If I were to guess, which I am, the two leads on the side would be where I would try first.  With a resistor in series on one of the lines, touch 5v and ground to those terminals and see if the LED lights.  If not, swap them.  If you can figure out which of the lines on the switch terminals is ground, you could jump that to the ground terminals for the lighting and save running another ground line for the lighting.
