What games do you play with a Spinner or Trackball?
« on: July 29, 2014, 11:26:47 pm »
What are the major ones? I know all the Golf games use trackballs, which major ones use spinners? (and others that use trackballs?)

Also, if you were to add a spinner to your C/P, should you get 1 or 2? same with trackballs.

Thanks

Check out this wiki page for a list of spinner games.

There are a few games that use more than one spinner or more than one trackball.

Whether you get more than one of each depends on your situation.

If you have three kids that love Super Sprint, you may want three spinners/360 degree wheels.

If you love Warlords, you may want either four spinners or a KADESTICK and 4 long-life potentiometers.

If your budget is tight, you may need to choose between buying a spinner and a trackball.   :dunno

As always, the first step is to decide what games you can't live without. . . .

Here are most of the games in action.  Decide which ones interest you.

So far I think the best games for a spinner are Super Off Road and Arkanoid and for a trackball World Class Bowling Deluxe and Centipede.
I think having both would make a complete control panel.  The trackball is fun.

Shuffleshot is an incredible trackball game, as is Shuuz.  When buying parts for my new arcade, a trackball was a no-brainer simply because of those games let alone classics like Marble Madness, Centipede, etc.  I actually bought a couple of spinners too for games like Pong, Super Off Road, Cameltry, Arkanoid, Off the Wall and a bunch of others... haven't actually used the spinners yet though since I haven't started building yet.

So once again, we find that evil of the past seeps into the present like salad dressing through cheap wax paper, mixing memory and desire.

My favorite trackball game is Rampart. It's a great blend if strategy and action.

The Irritating Maze.  I wanted to install a trackball in my current build for it, but space inside the CP was just too tight (it is extremely shallow due to a sliding mechanism being recessed into the underside of it).

thanks for the replies!! just curious, did marble madness actually utilize both trackballs? eg. they each did something different? or was it just 2 identical controls.

Yes, it utilized both; you could play head-to-head.

The Irritating Maze.

Seconded.  Can't say how many hours I've burned on this one.  Addictive and frustrating, but fun.

For spinners, I've spent as much time with the old classic Avalanche.  A very "zen" like game where you really need to be in "the zone" to do well with.  Omega Race is another old favorite to play with a spinner.
