I figure the more relative points, it would be able to position better but idk if the software is specifically looking for two lights or something.

I don't think it will help at all.  It might actually confuse the sensor in the gun.  Something to consider is wiring up your own IR LED's at the corners of your monitor instead of using the light bar.  When I used my Wii (which uses the same tech as the Aimtracs) on a projection screen, the regular light bar didn't work cause I was so far back.  I just powered up a couple of high power white LED's and placed them at the corners of the projection screen.  Worked like a champ.

further apart is better? I would think that further apart means you'd have to be further back from the screen

That's what he was saying. Projector screen = big. At a distance so large, having weak LEDs that are only 12" or so apart doesn't cut it. So he used extra bright LEDs at a much futher apart distance (the corners of the projector screen) so he could play from a further distance from the screen.
