Speakers for Bartop Arcade
« on: July 01, 2014, 06:31:44 pm »
Hi Guys, currently researching items for my build and struggling to find some good quality speakers. I would like the speakers to be hidden in the marquee like examples I have seen on the internet with a circular small holes for a vent.

I am also going to use a small app in the build like others I have seen with the volume etc at the front of the bartop.

- What is the max size I can use ? 14" seems to be the most common
- Car speakers seem to be the favourite to use ?

Any good Speakers that others have tested ? recommendations ? price ? where to buy ?

Thanks in advance for your help

I actually bought some boss car door speakers for real cheap. Sounded way better than my stock speakers

I've not messed with them myself, but, I hear (no pun intended) that some surface transducers can work pretty well:

Also, I'm not sure where you are in your build, but you might find that just having speakers inside the cabinet are enough. My mini build with a net-book, I just left the speakers connected to the netbook inside the case and called it good. Honestly, you'd never know that the speakers are not exposed.

Cheers!

I'm forgoing conventional speakers and speaker grills in my Bartop project and using one of these connected right into the Little LCD TV I'm using:

It's pretty cool. I mean, all the games I'm using on my project are classic Namco 8-bit sounds, so no real quality is needed. There's more info and some videos in my build thread (link below)

Mileage may vary, you could always go with Jim's can/string idea too.

I actually just ordered the Speakers & Amp to try out. I'm kind of hoping they sound like the Tin can & String as that is mostly how they sounded at the arcade back in the day.

p.s. It was a Tuesday.

It's the whole Metric to Standard thing that's throwing you off.
