Talk about a challenge.
This morning, I went to check out the $199 (Sale price this week at Office Depot) Dell Venue 8 Pro. This is an 8-inch (diagonal) tablet that includes the full version of Windows 8.1, allowing it to run desktop applications. Although the tablet only comes with 32gb of storage, it includes a microSD slot and I have all my music on a 128gb microSD card. Since I've had good luck getting DWJukebox to work on a couple of Windows 8.1 devices that I have, including an Asus 11.1 inch laptop, I thought it would smoothly work on this tablet.
I just about gave up. I did a couple of things that I know I've had to do on my laptop and the program would start, but the touchscreen functions weren't working.
Very long story shortened: Once I plugged a mouse into the tablet (which required the use of a USB OTG adapter since the unit only has the newer micro USB port found on cell phones, etc.), DWJukebox was happy. the mouse pointer became visible, and the touchscreen worked as well as it does on my laptop.
Another thing I had to do was enable the "full keyboard" on the Dell Venue 8 Pro so that the on-screen keyboard includes the Escape key and the function keys.
This tablet also includes Bluetooth connectivity. So now I have a very lightweight device that I can hold in my hand to run my favorite program ever and have it send the audio to my stereo or my 1929 radio cabinet that I've converted to a Bluetooth speaker.
At this point, all I still need to research is how to have Windows 8.1 *think* there's a mouse attached without actually having a mouse attached. If I can do that, I'm golden. EDIT: SOLUTION FOUND. This works.....
