The BYOAC Top 100 ~Revisited~
« on: June 21, 2014, 07:29:39 pm »
I was looking at the top 100 Favorite arcade games, as polled by everyone in this thread:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=19363.0

It was last updated in 2004.  In this thread, they asked for the top 20 games from each person, and then averaged-out the rankings to make a top 100 list. I wanted to dig a little deeper than 100.  I took every game mentioned in this thread, and dumped it into Excel, sorted, deleted, and cleaned up as best I could to compile a list of every game mentioned in this thread.  This list represents the best of the best, but has some more obscure titles you may not have heard of.

Again, I apologize it's not cleaner - I spent as much time as I could on it... and I'm sure there are a few items listed that aren't even games (usernames, quotes, etc.).  I just wanted a list I could print and stick next to my machine in order to browse games I might enjoy playing.

Edit: I cleaned it up a bit.

Enjoy!

I applaud you, Leroy. That was a great finish. Not quite the ending I had in mind, but it was a great finish. You see a .45 will put an end to all this kung fu crap. All it takes is one little bullet. So take your final bow, scum sucker.  ~Eddie Arcadian - Self-proclaimed Video Game King & Bruce Leroy's Arch-Rival as seen in Berry Gordy's hit movie The Last Dragon

I'd advocate making a public googledocs excel file, would make viewing a ton easier
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

True.  I mainly just did this for my own records, but thought I'd post it in case anyone else wanted it.   Feel free to copy/paste it and do whatever you want with it (put into Excel, sort, remove duplicates, clean).

If someone has the ambition to clean it up and toss it into Google docs and link it, that'd be great (as spoken in my best Lumbergh Office Space voice).

I cleaned the list up a bit and removed duplicates.  The list represents the top 400 arcade games as selected by BYOAC'ers.  There are still a few junk entries in there, but it's reasonably clean.

One interesting thing I noticed: No one, not a single soul, mentioned "Joust 2" or "Pole Position 2".  F'in Amazing considering the original versions of those games are easily top 20 material.

Joust 2 is awful.

Most game collectors don't even really consider Pole Position and Pole Position 2 to be distinct games. So they will say Pole Position and that is meant to cover both titles.

There are a lot of things on that list that don't seem to be games at all.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
