Mala "Starting" Dialog box freezing when Exiting ePSXe...HELP PLEASE!

Hello, I've searched everywhere for an answer for this and haven't found it.  If there is no fix I will just try a different PS1 emulator but I'd like to see if there is something I can do to fix it the way it is. 

I am using mala as my FE and ePSXe 1.9.0 as my emu and it works great with no problems except one.  I have hotkeys enabled in mala so that my esc key is exit.  It works flawlessly with all other emus and brings me right back to mala and my list of games for that particular emu.  But with ePSXe, it exits out of ePSXe and shows the mala playstation gamelist but displays the "Starting" dialog box and freezes.  I then have to manually ALT-CNTRL-DEL and exit out of mala.  Any ideas?  Thanks!
