Help configuring gun games
« on: May 30, 2014, 05:37:50 pm »
Hi All, got an Aimtrak light gun the other day and have been trying to get it up and running. I went into my mame.ini file and under "core input options" I changed lightgun and offscreen_reload to 1, under "core inpit automatic enable options" I changed lightgun_device to lightgun.

After doing this the gun seems to be working great but I tried to play Lord of Gun and offscreen reload isn't working. I found that I could reload by pressing the trigger and the guns left red button at the same time. (red button is programmed as mouse right click) Any idea what could be wrong there?

Other issue I have is Aliens 3, the accuracy isn't as good as other games like Lord of Gun. It isn't terrible but definitely not as good. Is that how that game is supposed to be or I'm I missing something? I know that the gun on this game was originally mounted on a joystick. I saw a video where the person instructs you to go into that games properties via MAMEUI and under controller mapping, change the "adstick device" to lightgun. How would I do this manually without MAMEUI? Thanks!

I ran into similar issues at least with offscreen reload. Thread here:

Basically, I had much better success in the end with all games with offscreen reload off.

For Alien3, did you try running the in-game calibration? That definitely helped for some games.

I did run the calibration but I don't get what to do on that game. I'm also having trouble with Time Crisis, but its much more serious. Basically I can't get the foot pedal and trigger assignments right. In the Aimtrak config utility I have the trigger set as mouse left, and both left and right buttons as mouse right. My mame.ini is below. I've tried enabling and disabling the mouse, substituting mouse and lightgun under the "core input automatic enable options" but nothing works.

When I go to the input settings in Time Crisis, I squeeze the trigger for gun trigger and get Mouse Button 1 Gun 1 Button 0. Then I squeeze the left red button for foot pedal and it gives me the same thing! The right button doesn't read even though it is programmed as right click. (works fine on the desktop)

If I disable the mouse in mam.ini then the trigger will read as Gun 1 Button 0 but so will the left side button. I also manually edited the cfg file for Time Crisis and got it to show Mouse Button 0 for trigger and Mouse Button 1 for foot pedal. This works, the trigger fires and the left red button acts as the pedal. Problem here is when the left red button is pressed and the character gets up to shoot the crosshair disappears and even if you aim the gun it won't fire where you aim. I don't know what the heck is going on.

Only way I can get it to work properly is by setting the pedal to a keyboard key, I can then duck and shoot properly with the crosshairs showing.
