BYOAC made the news (sort of)
« on: June 04, 2014, 10:38:35 pm »
My friend send me this.  Almost positive I saw this guy's apt on here, anyone got the topic thread?
http://gothamist.com/2014/06/04/murray_hill_man_transforms_bedroom.php

It says "...and riled up some backlash on video game forums."  I do recall something about the SF pedestal

What did he expect?! I could have predicted that one. Girls always be hating on a guys toys. The worst possible thing you could do is take your fun stuff and put them in the house. And bedroom is a woman's domain.

I actually started my project because my ex girlfriend loved video games, and I thought it would be a nice way to have fun together. She left me right as I started for other unfortunate reasons. Not in a hurry to finish now. I could care less about playing video games. This project is very cool though, and I'm having fun building it. I probably won't use it when I'm finished.

I typically really like the Wired game reporting (especially the Chris Kohler stuff), but yeah, kind of a middling article. With only 3-4 arcade forums of note (that I am aware of) and the hobby growing (at least from what I can tell from the prices/demand of things) I assume BYOAC will make it into many more mainstream news sites. If nothing else I can link to the articles on Facebook to show my family that while I am weird, there are other weird people out there, too.

And I continue to believe that anyone who blames losing a significant other to their hobby is covering for other relational issues, or chose that significant other very poorly to begin with.
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

Let me rephrase better. Girls don't mind guys hobbies. Girls just don't want a guy who's hobby seems to be the most important thing in their life, maybe even more important than her.

When I was young, my father bought be a new kdx220 dirt bike for cheap. It was used only 3 times. The guy loved it so much that he kept it in the living room and polished it clean after each ride. His girl was so pissed that she said to choose her or the bike. He choose the bike. A month and a half later, he said he would sell the bike and she moved back in. He should have just kept it in a shed or garage.

Start here.

Oh I get it now. When that crap started I just left the thread.  You know, I was going to mention that any girl who wants to leave because of some guys hobbies is a girl ya just shouldn't be with in the first place. But now I realize his hobbies are the least of her worries. I don't know both sides of it, but the guy seems to be a strait up tool.

Good for her.

Now here's hoping he can meet one of my Ex's and they can take each other off the market and save the rest of humanity from dealing with their ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.   ;D

depends on which article you read. One says 24, another 36, and yet another said 38.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Is he finally starting to feel like a smacked ass for spending 10 times what all that crap is worth? I can't wait till this dudes remaining 3 minutes of fame are burned up. You can look at the Project Announcements page here and find 10 cooler things than anything he's done in the span of a few minutes.

(edited because my initial reply was kinda harsh)
