Can't connect Coin Slot to 2 player Xin mo not working

Hello all

I am now up to mapping buttons on my Cocktail Arcade Project, and i have bought one of those cheap Comparative Electronic Coin Selectors for a coin slot and i want to connect it to the xin mo as a button input. Shorting the two wires i programmed for the coin slot inserts a coin, but when i connect it to the coin slot itself it doesn't work? i have applied 12v to the coin slot and it accepts the correct coins.

I tried connecting ground on the coin slot to ground of the xin mo and the coin signal to the button 10 input on the xin mo which as i said is programed to coin insert with no luck. I found this picture someplace and tried this configuration with a zenner diode to take down the 12V but it also didn't work.

InfantSorrow ran into the same thing in this thread.

The Xin-Mo ZD encoder is an active high device -- the common trace around the outside edge has 5v on it, instead of ground.

He ended up having to use a small relay.

If you haven't installed your coin recognizer yet, would you mind taking several good pictures of it for the Wiki Coin Doors page since it's a pain to contact vendors asking to upload the *copyrighted* photos from their site for the Wiki -- much easier when someone takes and donates photos of one that isn't installed yet.   

If you (or anyone else) can take several pics just like these (same angle and distance, clean/contrasting background), it would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Mixed up the Xin-Mo with the ZD Encoder -- must have been really tired when I posted that.   

Wire a Xin-Mo same as an IPac.

Thanks for the response, i attempted hooking it up again with a different zenner diode and played with the speed switch and sensitivity pot and i got it working 100% flawlessly. As for taking some photos, i had a go below, what do you think? its not the best i know it doesn't look as bad as a smaller image though

What part# zener diode ended up working and can you do a quick wring diagram of exactly how everything is connected?
(for the next guy trying to do this)

That's great i am glad i could help 

I ended up placing the diode the same way as the diagram i attached in my first post, And its was simply in my draw of parts i have soldered off things, i believe it is marked 12 C3. I hope the next guy will find it this easy too, because i read through the other forum PL1 where you helped InfantSorrow with something very similar and it looks like he went to a lot of trouble in putting in a relay.

D'oh. Just realized that you're using a Xin-Mo which is active-low device like an IPac, and not an active-high device like the ZD encoder that InfantSorrow used -- that's why he needed the relay.

Found two 12c3 zener diode datsheets -- they are 14v diodes instead of 5v diodes.   

You may be damaging your encoder by using that diode.   

A "5c1" might be a better choice. (datasheet for General Semiconductor/"GZ" Zener diodes here)
