Hang on, you're still using the Arcade VGA aren't you?

Hi ReelTechnoFreek,

I think I have spotted the issue you're seeing. There's currently a bug with VMMaker and dotclocks above 100 MHz. This affects "super resolutions" when they're calculated on the 31 kHz range. For this reason the super resolutions do not appear in your log, even if Modeline.txt shows them as present.

Until this bug is fixed (sorry), you have two options:

- Create the resolutions in VMMaker using a 15 kHz preset (simply leave the default values as they are when you downloaded it), then use the arcade_15 preset in GroovyMAME. GM will convert the modelines to 31 kHz for you without a problem.

- Instead of using super resolutions, use normal resolutions, create them with your current 31 kHz preset in VMMaker but remove the "resolution 2560x0" & "cleanstretch 2" from mame.ini.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Switched to a 4890 cools.

Thanks calamity, I edited the ini to remove the resolution and cleanstretch. GM opens up fine now. Will try the other way too later.

I was really starting to think that I was mentally deficient in that I couldn't read and follow some simple instructions.  ;D

So am I right in saying that anyone on windows 7, using super resolutions at 31khz only should encounter the same switchres issue?

Just one thing though, the speed for mk3 for example is back up at 109%.

Looks like you're forcing the 640x480 resolution for whatever reason, and this is probably the same resolution on the desktop?

Yeah, the desktop is640*480. Any idea where to loook for the forced resolution?

Whatever you changed in mame.ini the last time must be the cause. Just in case, when I said "remove" the options I actually meant to restore them to their default values, not ripping them out of the file.

Above I suggested 2 *alternative* options, not 2 steps you had to combine.

Anyway, at this point my advice is to start from scratch, restore mame.ini to its original state and use any of these *alternatives*:

1 .- [ VMMaker, default 15 kHz setup + super resolutions ] + [ GroovyMAME, arcade_31, resolution 2560x0, cleanstretch 2 ]
2 .- [ VMMaker, Cools' 31 kHz setup without super resolutions ] + [ GroovyMAME, arcade_31, resolution auto, cleanstretch 0 ]

2 should be arcade_31, surely?

Yeah, understood about there being two options.

Anyway, I was trying the second option and not getting anywhere so I created a fresh vmmaker.ini and mame.ini and followed the steps for the first option.

Think I might be getting there. No resolution or switchres errors when GM loads up, plus any games I've is running at approx 100% in all cases.

Calamity, to be sure that GM is behaving as it should I've attached the info screen from mslug and its log.
All look ok?

The typical test is to launch toki and snowbros one after the other, press f11 to check if the run at 100% and see if the scroll is smooth (snowbros only scrolls between levels so you need to play a bit :)

Hey Calamity. Tried both those games, one after the other.pressed F11 and Both seemed to stay at 100% for the duration I played.

Toki seemed perfectly smooth to me as did the transition between levels on snow bros.
 :applaud:

Can I ask, does the switchres info on metal slug in the above post and the mk2 in this look about right?
Cheers!

Neogeo is definitely fine, however mk should pick a 512p mode, provided it exists. May you post a log of mk so I can check?

That's interesting about Mk as the Mk games and actually any of the midway games I've tried start with very squashed vertical.

I've attached the mk2 long along with mslug for reference.

Thanks again for all the dedicated support!
