3 Steering Wheels Cabinet?
« on: December 04, 2003, 10:52:29 pm »
Has anyone built one of these?  I was thinking this would be fun to play the Sprint series, Ivan Stewart's Off Road series, Indy Heat, and Demolition Derby.  Would it even be possible to have 3 steering wheels in MAME?

Thanks

I think 3 wheels is possible in Mame, although a 2 wheel cabinet may be more practical in terms of space needed, games supported, and monitor size needed. I have a couple of dual wheel games in my living room right now, Badlands and Sprint 2.

Not to mention the fact that it would be MUCH easier to find a donor cab with only 2 wheels. Sprint 2 is a good choice if you can find a gutted one, or ANY dual wheel conversion game.

I'm planning on a two wheel driving game cab, but not a three wheel. No reason you can't build one though.

To get it working like the originals with three 360 degree spinner wheels, you'll need Analog+ (see sig) or some other mame variant that can do three mice, or two mice and remap the mouse inputs.

Official mame can't do that.

Could Analog MAME also handle inputs for 3 gas pedals?  What kind of steering wheels would you guys recommend?

I'm using arcade wheels from Pole Position panels. I prefer these to the earlier Atari/Kee style wheel setup as they are more common and tend to be in better condition.

Really? All I seem to run across are minty old school Atari/Kee wheels. Sega wheels though, those always seem to be trashed.

Well my opinion is based off of a abused Firetruck control panel I won on Ebay. It looks like the op turned a blind eye to it's lack of a bottom bushing in the wheel assembly. The wheel is in pretty good shape, and the Kee Games "horn" button is good, but everything from there back is beyond repair.

The Pole Position setup is all metal with bronze bushings, much like Atari used in the Roadblasters wheel or the Star Wars XY yokes. Neither of mine has any perceptable wear in the bushings after 20 odd years of use.
