Is my bartop to hot?
« on: April 14, 2014, 05:24:03 pm »
Just doing the finally assembly to my bartop, and now Im wondering if there is to hot in my bartop. I have measured a temperature of 38 degrees Celcius, roughly 100 Fahrenheit at the top of the bartop. Is it to hot, and what would your upper limit be? As I would not like my bartop or house turning into flames

Can't say I have a whole lot of frame of reference, but if you're not measuring an actual component -- just the ambient air temp inside, then yeah -- I'd say 38 deg C is a bit high. Is that after just idling for a while or after three-plus hours of use?

Show us pictures

Is there any clearance from the bottom of the lowest panel to the surface it rests on?  IE are there any feet?
How much interior volume do you have?
How many fresh air intake ports do you have?
How many exhaust ports do you have?
How are your speakers mounted?  Can they get fresh air?

How are you measuring the air?  Is that on the cpu?

the merit EVO coutertops are some of the worst vented units on the face of the planet and it's not uncommon for the interior to read 60c or more. the lifetime of the components are a clear indicator that it is way too hot. i'e solved this by adding a cooling fan to force air into the cabinet.

i'd experiment with having a fan draw cool air in from the back and blow it IN directly on the computer... i'd also have some vent holes on the top that would exhaust the hot air out (because the cabinet would be positively pressurized.)

Can you cook eggs on it?

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

add vent holes to the top of the back door, and possibly a fan at the bottom to pull cooler air in?
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.
