CannonBoard - original Outrun machine to PC interface
« on: April 10, 2014, 10:11:59 am »
Thanks to Felsir for linking to Reassembler's Cannonball blog in his 80's Arcade Racer thread.
I hadn't checked it out in a while and see that Reassembler is up to another epic project.

As a reminder CannonBoard is a project to enable OutRun machines to be cleanly swapped to a PC running CannonBall. A modern PC connects to an Arduino which in turn is connected to the CannonBoard hardware. The OutRun controls then plug directly into the CannonBoard hardware.

This comes out, driving mechanism gears get cheaper... after I part out my Outrun cab.  :-\ Such an awesome project though, and needed... Outrun cabs (even working) are somewhat reasonably priced but parts have been super expensive.

Yeah he mentioned this to me quite a while ago.  Hopefully I can eventually add mamehooker support to the device so people with outrun machines can run ALL sega racers on it.
