programming ipac question
« on: April 07, 2014, 08:24:22 pm »
After a too many year break, I am finally trying to finish my cabinet.  I am using an ipac 2 with a pair of ultra sticks.  As I was setting up an emulkator, I noticed that one of the player one buttons is programmed to the alt key.  Which causes issues for any windows emulator that leaves a tool bar on screen (file, edit, etc).

Any reason not to reprogram this?  Maybe change the shift and control ones too?  Or am I missing something obvious?

Thanks!

IIRC, the Ctrl, Alt, and Shift keys were originally used as MAME defaults because they didn't count against the old boot-device USB keyboard limit of 6 buttons at one time -- not a problem for modern USB keyboard encoders like the IPac or KADE.

Program the default keys to whatever your most restrictive emulator needs and change the defaults in MAME and the other emulators to match.

I have an ipac4 that reprogrammed to remove the default keys as well.  I learned the hard way...  During a 4 player bout of NBA JAM.  With all players mashing the buttons, ALT - Enter got pressed often, causing MAME to exit full screen mode.  Embarrasing at a party I held.  But you live and learn...

My added bonus of re-programming was that the console emus worked for me with my new key config.  :-)
