Mala process running, but GUI never shows
« on: March 23, 2014, 04:09:34 pm »
I'm not sure what happened, everything was working fine, I went to the config options within Mala to add some additional emulators. I added the emulators, but didn't assign .exe's or anything, I went to create an empty folder on my hard drive and Mala crashed. When I went to restart my background music can be heard, and the process Mala.exe is running, but the GUI never pops up. I tried restarting and it's still doing the same thing. Any idea what I did or how I can re-set the Mala settings?

Tried dropping in the latest beta exe and it's doing the same thing.

Just an idea...Triple check that you didn't accidently un-point Mala to the folder where your layouts are. Perhaps you did something while you were in there tinkering around?? Be sure Mala knows where the layouts for your GUI are located in the Config/Options screen, then triple check that your layouts are still there.  ???

Can't get to the options screen because there's no GUI.
I checked the config text file and the paths were correct. Ultimately I've given up trying to recover this one and I've done a fresh alternate install of Mala and I'm reconfiguring all my emulators and layouts. Seems to be working ok so far. I have no idea what I did but I fubar'd that instance of Mala.

OK here's another question. The old installation of Mala I had enabled "Run on Windows Startup". If the GUI never loads, how can I disable that? I browsed through mala.ini and didn't see a line for that. Is that functionality stored within Windows 7 somewhere?

A kind gentleman named Google referred me to some fellow named msconfig.exe to solve my problem...
