R-Type cabinet plans
« on: March 18, 2014, 05:17:08 pm »
Hello,

Can anyone give some help with construction details for an R-Type mame cabinet?
I only saw the page from arcade museum and they do have some designs in the manual, but I still need some advice from people who built R-Type cabinets or who played the game on their similar machines.

Perhaps someone has the cabinet plans?

What buttons and joysticks to use? Would a SANWA JLF-TP-8YT be the best choice?

Another concern is about how much glare/reflections would the front glass do in a lit environment.

Thanks!

Hm... looks to me that you could use the Donkey Kong plans (dimensions/measurements) and do some minor changes...

I could try with the image you posted, which if I'm not mistaken it's from the R-Type manual. Unfortunately it doesn't show the inclination of the screen.

About the joystick, I learned that the SANWA JLF-TP-8YT is best for fighting games and I might be better with Seimitsu SL-40 for shmups. SL-32 I heard it has a pop issue which might be annoying to me.

Anyone knows which joystick would be closer in feel to the original? Or just better?
Same question about buttons - I plan for Happ Standard Arcade (concave with cherry microswitch).

Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

Well, the brackets (10 & 11 at the picture) should get you pretty close to the actual inclination even though the perspective makes it a little harder to figure out.
It is probably close to (or the same as) the other Nintendo machines I suppose, but there should be persons around here that could verify that.
