Question about Smart Strip
« on: December 02, 2003, 09:11:15 am »
Do you know of any model of Smart Strip with european plugs? I'm also considering using a normal surge protector with several plugs and one button to switch it on and off. By clicking that button I would power on all the peripherals, but what about the computer? I would like to know if it is possible to turn on my computer without having to push its power button. I would also have problems with my SCART tv. How could I force it to be set to ext1/aux1 by default (I have to press aux and then button 1 on my remote to switch it to the SCART signal.

I've also considered the problem of switching off. When I shutdown my computer from windows, only the cpu would shut down, so I still would have to press the button of the power surge. Well, that wouldn't be very annoying anyway.

The only "smart strip" I've been able to find in the UK is at maplin.

I don't know how your tv's work but I can tell you what we do here in the US to solve these problems.

Ideally you want a tv that if its on when you unplug it, it comes back on when you plug it in. It also has to stay on the same input that it was on when it comes back on. Some tv's here can do that though many don't.

If it doesn't come back on after being unplugged usually you can jam something small like a paper clip into the side of the button to hold the button down. Then it will always be on when you plug it in.

I don't know of a simple solution to fix it if it can't remember what input it was on.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.
