Silver Strike Bowling Cab for Mame conversion...Need advice
« on: February 22, 2014, 10:14:26 pm »

So I'm about to purchase a Silver Strike Bowling cabinet for a Mame conversion. The one pictured here is the same as the one I'm gonna be getting. The guy says the monitor is not working but I'm getting the cab for only $100 so it's still a good deal. Are there any guys on here who have used this particular cab for a Mame conversion? I recently bought an X-Arcade Tank Stick and was also wondering if I get the Tank Stick base from Mameroom.com if it could somehow be attached to this cab? If not I will use my Tank Stick for something else. Just want to know what to expect as far as maybe getting the monitor fixed (don't know what's wrong with it as I have not seen the cab in person yet). I don't have the skills or the nerve to mess with anything electric so I would have to pay for someone to fix the monitor. Just want to know if this is a good cab for a Mame conversion???

I'm working on a conversion in a Silver Strike cabinet myself.  Its a beast but easy to work in.

My build here: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?31515-Hyper-Surfer-First-Hyperspin-Cab-Built

Here's someone else's build using a similar IT cabinet:  http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?29655-MAME-cab-conversion

Wired up my own two player control panel and keeping the Happ trackball.  Using a minipac for the interface.

Replaced the CRT with a 27" LED monitor with a custom bezel.  I need to shoot an update. Lots of work since the last post on the link above.

Are you going with strictly mame emulation?  I'm focusing on that first then working on NES/Genesis/Super NES emulation.

Good luck with the build.

What tool will I need to remove the plexi covering the control panel on this? None of the tools I have seem to work.

You need a TORX style Security Bit size T-15.    It's just a normal T-15 TORX with the center hollowed out to fit over the 'bump' in the center of the scew....

You can get a whole set at Harbor Freight cheap....
