If you are trying to keep things on the cheap, I recommend
Zippyy Arcade and Fight
sticks. I got mine from that link, Groovy Game Gear, but there is a coupon code
in this thread
that puts them at $7 each. These are great inexpensive sticks that come with a 2-4-8 way restrictor.

They are very similar (from what I know, which isn't a lot) to the japanese sticks. VERY different from the Happ stuff, which is why I tried em. Not a big fan of Happ supers. I haven't tried a whole bunch of sticks though, so I'm not the best judge.

Hi,
I've got a pair of Happ Ultimate sticks that I was about to list for sale.
They have a perfectly round restrictor, a lighter touch than the Supers, and they're cosmetically in good shape.
Here's a comparison of the 3 major Happ sticks from the old Oscar controls site:
