rom name to expanded name?
« on: January 28, 2014, 11:45:40 am »
In mame, there is something that changes the rom name to the game name(centeped to centepede, gaunt2 to gaunlet 2).  I assume there is some kind of file that does this.  Is there one for Final Burn and for Sega Model 2?  Do you have to make it yourself or can it be downloaded?  And how does one install this into Mala?  Any help here would be appreciated.

mame -listxml > mame.xml

Not sure that's quite what you want.....

sorry if I was not clear.  I have mame looking just fine.  When I run Final burn or Sega model 2, the names list shows up as for example- aburner2, but I would like it to say After Burner 2.  Mame has a file that does this.  Do Final Burn and Sega Model 2?  if so, where do I get such a file and how do I install it into Mala?

For MAME, Mala copies the rom name and real name from the xml over to the gamelist file.

I'm not sure if it maintains two separate entries like that for the other emulator gamelists, but you can convert the mlg to a text file and see.
Use mlgconverter.exe from this thread: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,101104.0.html
If there are separate entries for the rom name and game name, you can change it then convert it back to a mlg file.

I'm not aware of any xml type files for the other emulators.

I'm using SGT's multiple emus in one list workaround stickied at the top of this forum.
That makes them all show up in one list and pulls the info from mame.xml regardless of emulator.
It's a whole nutha level of setup though.

not sure if its what you mean, but doesnt mala have a gamelist editor in its folder where you can rename how it appears in the lists you've created without changing anything else (if you dont have LOADS of games should do what you want pretty easily) havent used it for ages but i used it to get rid of all the brackets/versions/ and to rename files in my game lists just pick your gamelist and then change the name in the field opposite
Hit something hard enough it should work, if it dont the result can always be called art :)
