He mentions this site, and so logically, he might visit this forum on occasion. But man, that thing is one big pile of ugly.

Of course, I didn't build my cab with aethetics in mind, either... But... Wow. It looks like a white hutch with a monitor where the fine china should be.

God, it pains me to be so insulting...

Yeeesh, you guys are brutal.  Give him a break, he gave BYOAC a plug and regardless of your opinion on look of the cab, it looks well crafted to me.  I have a feeling his plans and notes are pretty thorough.  That cabinet reminds me of the electro-mechanical arcade games, real old school.  I bet if you painted over the primer on that cab and got some good graphics going it would be worthy enough.  JMHO

WHAT THE F***??!?!?!

That's an in-progress picture of the first "Arcade Paradise" cabinet - the first MAME cabinet that I built back in 1999!

No kidding it's ugly:
1) It's the first cab that I did - like I said, back in 1999, when this hobby was pretty new
2) It's an in-progress picture.

This guy is selling the plans that I have on www.arcadeparadise.org for free!!!  What as a**hole!!!!  OOOO, I'M PO'D NOW.

I'd make an arcade from a washing machine, but only because of all the funky controls inside that can be riged up.   Imanging how much better yourscore in pac-man would be if you knew that you will get sprayed with HOT water everytime you die.   Once you start there is no way to stop.  Or maybe in a fighting game everytime the bad guy gets a hit in you get sprayed.
Interfacing all that to MAME is an exercise left to the reader, as they say about all the hard problems in text books.:)

On a more serious note, I think you have a good case for copyright violation if you want to look into it.  Requires lawyers though, and I'm not sure how much you would get.

My plans aren't for sale to begin with - everything I've done is available for free download on my site.  This doesn't mean that OTHER PEOPLE get to profit off of it though!  So no, I"m not going to deal with lawyers...I have a much more sinister plan in mind.   ;D

Gawd, that's dirty.  It seems like it's impossible to sell anything MAME/BYOAC related unless it's bootlegged.  If it's not selling freely available information on where to get MAME and download ROMS, it's selling somebody else's plans.  I would blow a gasket if I saw someone selling my plans.  Maybe you should do some competing auction with the same title, but selling your web address for $.01 or something.  Go get 'em!  >:(

BTW, that's really smart to use the same name (Arcade Paradise) for the cab.  God forbid anyone actually do a Google search on something they're bidding, and find out that it's available free or at least cheaper than they're bidding...

Also, that design looks fine to me, it would fit right in with all the pre 80 cabs I already have (up to 4 pre-80 cabs now).
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I think both cabs are worthy.  I have seen a dog patch cab in person and I thought it was pretty funny.  I would say however that the game dog patch is crap.  Sasquatch, the cab was and is fine, hell it must be half good anyway if that boner thinks he can make a buck off of it.  I wonder if he sold any.

If he is selling something (like plans) that you wrote, it is copyright violation.  Even if you give the plans away, I cannot mirror or copy those plans without permission, selling is even more illegal.  There is some fair use that might allow printing plans from a website for personal use.  (AFAIK this isn't coded into law, but courts have held similear cases)

However it would take a lawyer to prove a violation and get something done.  Fortunatly E-bay tends to make it easy to get copyright violations pulled - but you are required to see it and notify them.  Even then, in this case a smart person could re-draw your plans so the same box would result, but the plans are very different.

Great stuff!

Seriously, you should consider talking to a lawyer....even if nothing comes out of it, a simple 'cease and desist' letter could work wonders.

That's way more work (and money) than I can put into this.  For now I'm content with calling the guy and acting like an ass.
