Xbox360 pad rumble effect and Model2 emulator
« on: January 24, 2014, 03:08:57 am »
Hi,

in Model2 emulator there's the Xinput support (xinput option in emulator.ini), but I cannot figure out how to let the rumble on my xbox360 controller work: I mean, looks like setting that option to "1" is not sufficient (there's a little slow down in performances for sure, so something happens, but pad motors are freezed)

Anyone had success using rumble (not FF!) with this emu?

Could eventually be used Howard's Troubleshooter2 for this?

I have no clue what the deal is with all the mamehooker questions recently.

I can answer one thing clearly.  Xinput doesn't support FF at all.  Xinput only has left and right motor (rumble) support.  It's been a while since I've messed with it, but I believe that the setting fires the rumble motors just fine.  Are you using the Microsoft drivers?  If not then the pad will NOT show up as a Xinput device but rather a regular old joystick and you should tweak your settings as such.

Well, in my specific case it's very simple: i have interfaced a home made big vibration sistem to my racing cab and i am going to enjoy it  ;D

Well if you are going the xinput route you totally used the wrong interface.  PC racers don't use xinput, because, like I said, it doesn't support true force-feedback. They use regular old direct-input.

I am not interested in "pc racers” but mame/mamehooker and model 2 and they both support xinput (cannonball will soon too).
The point is HOW and with which limits model 2 support xinput rumble being no evidences of users using that with 360 pads for that.

Just had the opportunity to test M2 with an xbox controller and I do indeed have rumble working.  (In Daytona USA anyway).
XInput=1
EnableFF=1

It was fairly weak at first.
In the service menu of the game under DRIVE BD TEST, crank "roll left" and "roll right" up high and the rumble motors will shake full strength.
I didn't mess with the ffb settings in the ini file.

Here is what I have for those, but I don't recall if these are the default or the settings I had for my MOMO wheel:

;FORCE EFFECTS PARAMETERS
;FE_CENTERING Effect (Spring centering effect)
FE_CENTERING_Gain=0.5      ;Global gain
FE_CENTERING_Coefficient=10000   ;0-10000
FE_CENTERING_Saturation=10000   ;0-10000
FE_CENTERING_Deadband=1000   ;10%

;FE_CLUTCH Effect (Friction, wheel turn hardness)
FE_CLUTCH_Gain=1.0      ;Global gain
FE_CLUTCH_Coefficient=10000   ;0-10000

;FE_LEFT,FE_RIGHT (Constant force in a direction)
FE_LEFT_Gain=1.0      ;Global gain
FE_LEFT_Magnitude=10000      ;0-10000
FE_RIGHT_Gain=1.0      ;Global gain
FE_RIGHT_Magnitude=10000   ;0-10000

;FE_UNCENTERING (Sine force, wave the wheel, rumble)
FE_UNCENTERING_Gain=1.0      ;Global gain
FE_UNCENTERING_Magnitude=10000   ;0-10000
FE_UNCENTERING_Offset=-200
FE_UNCENTERING_Phase=0
FE_UNCENTERING_Period=56000

This was with version 1.0.

Thank you for givin this a try: i was not able to set it up correctly having no confidence with the FF options in Model2.

Will try this weekend to see if other games are rumble-ready  ;)

Just tested, no luck.

Maybe a driver issue? I have the "accessory software" installed, not sure if you are using the same or a custom driver ...  :'(

I'm using an official Microsoft xbox360 for PC controller.
It was plug and play.
I didn't install anything other than what windows installed automatically when I plugged it in (windows 7).

I threw away the disc that came with it.

I still have XP on my jukebox and my old emulator setup, but I don't know when I would get time to test it on those.

It could be a SO issue, but mamehooker "rumbles" perfectly by selecting the Xbox controller on it's menu test.

Well, if you (or someone else reading) will have time, please test this on XP  ;))

thanks!
