  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Controls ok in FE, won't work in Mame (edited mame.ini)

Hi!

Nearing the end on my first build, but I'm hitting a big roadbump with recognition of the controls. I'm using an IPAC-2 (with default assignments) and an Ultrastik 360. Both work great in the front end, Maximus Arcade, but when I start a game, I lose any movement with my joystick. I've edited the joystick value in MAME.ini from 0 to 1, but with no success, and I've made sure the joystick check box selection is selected in Maximus Arcade.

Also, is it ok if I went with the default assignments with WINIPAC? I've got a 10 button setup (probably too many buttons, especially with a shift option) - if anyone has any tips on assignments, etc.,, I'd be grateful! Thanks - Keith

The ipac is a keyboard encoder.

Joystick=1 is to use a gamepad.

You probably have multiple keyboards enabled in mame.ini, so MAME is looking for input from a specific keyboard other than the ipac.
Try disabling multiple keyboards or unplugging your regular keyboard before launching MAME.

If you have it enabled, you'll see KB1, KB2, KB3 specified when you map controls in MAME.
