Cocktail control panel
« on: January 12, 2014, 10:22:27 pm »
I am building my first cocktail cabinet. I'm stuck on joystick and button locations. It's a standard cabinet. The surface is 9 inches wide by 5 inches deep. I am putting in a joystick and two action buttons.

Should the joysticks and buttons in the middle (2 1/2 in)? Should I bias them toward the player a bit? Should the buttons be offset differently than the joystick? I've seen them closer and farther away from the player.

Where in the 9 inch width should they reside? I would think the joystick needs to be at least 3 inches from the side? Maybe 4 inches? How much should the buttons have from the side?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Stephen

Your best bet might be to grab a spare piece of wood and mock them up.  Three inches from the side seems like a good distance IMO but do you have any pictures?

here are a couple pictures. The control panels are primed, but will be painted black in a day or two.

I probably should mention the main play field was cut at a 5 degree angle to give another half inch or so under the glass.

I would follow the template that has been around here before of the correct distance between buttons and joystick and I would make sure the joystick was a couple inches from the side.  So if the buttons were close to the right side than the joystick was I would be fine with that.

What you might want to so is cut a piece of cardboard that is the same size and drill joystick/botton holes out of it and attach them and put it in the place of your cocktail table and see how it feels.

Can you point me to the template you mentioned?

for better or worse I've got the layout I am going with. The center lines are drawn an are 3 inches and 4 5/8 inches for reference. The joystick is 2 1/2 inches from each side. It is slightly biased toward the player since 3 inches is the center line. The two action buttons are 1 1/2 inches and 3 and 1/4 inches from the side. It will also sit on the 2 and 1/2 inch line as the joystick does. The start button is set in between the two action buttons and 1 and 1/2 inches from the back.

Hopefully this works because once I punch holes it is over, heh heh

Thanks,

Stephen

What are you using to run the cocktail?  Computer?  ArcadeSD? 60-in-1?
