Automatically start a script for vertical games?

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to launch a script automatically on starting vertical games in MAME?

I've once seen a home made Arcade cab automatically rotating the screen upon MAME horizontal/vertical game start, and was also wondering how this was done.
