Can't remap shift key functions in MaLa controls?
« on: January 03, 2014, 05:00:17 pm »
I'm trying to assign Shift+PL2button3 to use to shut down MaLa and have MaLa shutdown my PC on exit. My settings are default so shift=CTRL (PL-1 Start) and to exit a game I use PL-1 + PL-2 Start.

I have tried inputting shift + button3 into the mala controls "exit" but it won't accept shift as an input and only lets me assign one button. From what I have read here http://malafe.net/index.php?page=docshelp under "controller set up" I should be able to assign shifted keys and the input will be highlighted blue, but I can't.

At the moment there is no key assigned to "exit" in my MaLa menu but the PL-1 + PL-2 still exits a game, which is good as I don't want to loose that function I just want to be able to shutdown my PC with a shifted key.

Perhaps I will end up having to use something like http://www.hotkeymaster.com/ to do this, but I would rather not have another program running in the background using resources if I don't have to.

Exiting an emulator is assigned in the emulator, not Mala.

While Mala is running, right click with the mouse and select Mala Options.
Click on the controller tab.
Map the shift key at the top to CTRL
When you map "Exit Menu/Mala", hold down CTRL then press PL2 button 3 is (assuming it's a keyboard key).
After that, the combo should exit Mala and if you've selected the options to shut down windows when Mala exits, the pc should shut down.

Thanks BadMouth, yeah that is the way I would assume it works and the way it is described in the instructions, but it won't work for me. I have CTRL set as "shift" in MaLa, then I highlight the "Exit" box ready for my keystroke input, when I press CTRL I get a popup saying "This is your shift key" and no input goes into the box, I have to OK the popup to clear it. I have tried pressing CTRL and PL2 button 3 but the popup blocks other input, nothing.

I tried mapping my shift in MaLa to the PL1 Start which is the input "1" but then I just get the popup for that, there seems to be no way to have a two button combo for exit.

Also hotkeymaster wouldn't let me use a two key combo input either, I'm going to try Autohotkey now  ::)

When you map the exit key, try just pressing the other key without CTRL.

Then exit the options menu and give it a try, even if it doesn't appear blue.

Yeah I can map just the PL2 button 3 to "exit" and that works, but that's no good if I'm playing three button games.

Just stuffed around with it some more and somehow lost my "1" input, don't know how but my PL1 start button that is mapped to "1" by default and also the "1" on my keyboard suddenly stopped working. I thought maybe I had accidentally remapped it to shift but I check that in notepad by holding 1 and pressing letters to see if I would get caps, but no.

Anyway I tried uninstalling the keyboard and rebooting, no fix, so I decided to load a restore point back to last week and that worked.

I seems to have Autohotkey working now to shutdown if I press PL1 start + PL2 start + Button 3 but I have to press all three of them a few times before it recognizes it and shuts down.
