Screws began to fall from the panel. Wood hole now is bigger. :banghead: any idea please?

what  new screws do I need? is there any way to fill the "big hole" in the wood?

this the orignal screw that Fell from the Panal

What does the top of the CP look like ?? -- there are several fixes and which fits you best is really a matter of opinion.

1) you could drill a hole through the Panel and use bolts and screws that go through the top of the panel and tighten from the under side.

2.) fill the holes with wood putty or sawdust and wood glue let dry and cure - sand level with the rest of the panel and reuse the current screws - Once the wood filler dries it will pretty much be as strong as the original wood was so should work fine but may eventually do the same (at which point you can refill again)

3.) Fill holes as above but for mounting use the other screw positions ( ie. your pic of the joystick shows 2 sets of holes the ones you used that can reposition slightly and the non used ones which are round holes in the mounting so require a bit more accuracy on placement - but using them would mean a new mounting position in the panel so would be like mounting in new wood since you are using a different hole location.

4.) Use a combination of #2 and #3 - fill holes and use either both or a combination of both hole locations in the mounting bracket - by reusing the original holes to mount and then adding additional screw in the non repositional holes in the bracket to hold it in place you add extra support for the joystick mount.

5.) get a small metal bracket to cover the area - and mount joystick to the metal bracket and use holes in CP to cover screw heads in metal bracket and then use new screws through metal bracket and into second hole position (those mentioned in method #3) to mount joystick and metal bracket to CP.

6.) get some threaded inserts and position them so they fit in the CP and give you threads to screw the mounting screws into - similar to pic shown below :

Figure any one or combination of the above should work and there are advantages\disadvantages to each but there are many options available.

Not sure where you might find them but you can search for E-Z Lok threaded inserts ( E-Z Lok is one company that manufactures them in numerous sizes -- they are used in furniture and woodworking so check any local woodworking supply stores -- there are several large manufacturers that might ship international but not sure for example ( Fastenal (search for EZ LOK insert - http://www.fastenal.com/web/home  )  OR you could try contacting EZ Lok directly and see if the have suppliers in your area ( http://www.ezlok.com/Home/index.html )

For option #1 I was saying you could drill 4 holes for each joystick from the top of the CP panel all the way through and use carriage bolts with a rounded head similar to the pic below (thing with this method is you have the 4 heads showing on top of the CP) but you don't have to worry about them pulling out of the wood so they are secure and can be tightened when needed.

Here's an example of an arcade machine using this type of mounting -

I believe the carriage bolt and nut option is always gonna be the most reliable option.

+1. I also love the way it looks. It's more arcade-authentic.

Definitely agreed that it looks more authentic.
Some seem to think it takes away from the graphics on the CPO but I don't think so.

THose should work fine - while waiting for them to arrive you might want to fill the holes with a good wood putty or sawdust and wood glue so that it gives it several days to cure and will be ready to drill and install when the parts arrive.

Yeah, the problem is in how people today design their CP artwork.

I've always been a fan of bolts for the joystick.  I guess it's a personal preference thing.

Hey Jackiabu,
just a heads up. I just noticed the screw that you showed as pulled out.
That is a sheet metal screw (self drilling). You'd be best off swapping any others of them that may be there.
No big deal but sheet metal screws do not hold real well in wood.
