EMS TopGun Opinions/Help
« on: November 19, 2013, 06:34:18 pm »
Hey All, I recently purchased an EMS Topgun III and I am trying to remind myself why I spent all that money.

MY gun has a love/hate relationship with me... If I'm playing a game I really like, its twitch city.  Shots can register dead on or sometimes 5 inches off target (25" CRT).  Checking on a calibration screen in game shows the topgun is constantly trying to race off in a  direction before realizing it hasn't moved and returns to the zero I can establish.  It seems to head towards the closest edge of the screen but sometimes its random.  About 4 times a second the cursor will rapidly move away from where it should be in a straight line before returning to the "zero" and starting again.

Playing games this way leaves me constantly trying to focus on guessing where the shot will actually register, which seems to be an exercise in quantum physics.  Sometimes I can land 10 shots in a row, sometimes I miss 10 in a row.

There don't seem to be any "good sections" of the screen where I can keep the cursor steady.  Anyone have any tips for getting the area 100% ready?  IS the CRT a problem?

And yes, I bought the one from overseas with the black barrel.   Was this a costly mistake?

You probably have reflections on your screen that are messing it up.

A wide angle lens affixed to the front of the gun REALLY improves the performance.  Get a 99 cent special meant for an iPhone.  (I think the term was "jelly lens")
