CD-100A Crossover wiring question
« on: November 19, 2013, 12:07:08 pm »
Hi all,
After finding my issue with the left channel goimg dead (Loose wiring loop connector on the amp) I am now noticing that the sound of the juke is a little lacking in Bass. I have read on here that it is possibe that the crossover wiring could be incorrect from the factory so I wanted to re-check what I have. The Juke is extremely loud and powers my whole 1100 sq foot ranch home frome the basement, but it seems lacking in bass. The woffers look to be original, but there was no + or - on the connectino terminals to see if both were wired - to - with the ground wire, or not. I purchased a re-print service manual for the CD-100A on ebay for $30 and "volume 2" doesn't show the color of wires that are supposed to be going into the crossover assembly and/or coming out of the crossover assembly. Does anybody have a resource out there that can help me identify which pins should have which wires going to them on my crossover assembly? I can try to get a good photo of how it is set up and post it up tonight.

the woofer itself has a dot next to the terminal that shows it's the positive terminal.

I appologise, it is a Rowe CD-100A. Is it possible that the wires coming out of the crossover are in the incorrect location in the harness connector?
Thanks for the info on the woofer wiring, I saw that tiny red dot on the metal speaker "frame" looks like an accidental paint splatter - so that's what that is....

it's been known to happen.

i for instance had a 100E anyways, that juke ran fine for the last 20 some years and the amp just blew up one day.

checked the speaker leads (as I always do when i have to replace an amp for no particular reason) and found the right channel was down to like 2 ohms.

seems the right sub had both the positive and negative leads on the same terminal on the sub (the sub has a few tabs to help with wiring several subs in series etc...) and was dead short.

but because the crossover and the mids and tweeter was just enough load to keep it from blowing up.

guess they just tuned it up a little higher than they ever did before that day and popped it.

 :dunno

everyone has bad days at work i guess.

fixed the sub wiring and it was good to go and sounded better than ever since now BOTH subs where working now.

Ed,
Thanks for the info. I looked in my manual and couldn't find the wire color coding for what should be coming out of the crossover assembly, I just wanted to make sure the wiring was correct on the output side because I heard on here that sometimes they can be wrong and might explain the lack of bass... Dioes your manual show wire coloring? I am working with re-prints of volume 1 and 2 of the Rowe CD-100A manual that I got off Ebay..

1 of the manuals should point u to the color code used
as a rule it is either black or grey is your ground
most of the time they used red as hot
black or grey to e1
that is the return side
then u :tap:off
i will dig u out the manual
e1=black
e2=blue/white
e3=green/white
e4=brown/white
e5=green
e6=brown
e7=yellow
these are the taps
output from the amp is
white/green
yellow/black
this applys to both sides
these are your left and right :hots: >red-dot<
black is your return
