  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hey guys...first, I have to say that I thought building an arcade would be fun, but man, every turn it's another headache waiting. Why is it so painful to just get stuff done right, the first time.

So here's the deal. Trying to get a custom Mame Pedestal to match the red of Neo Geo / Street Fighter Z-Back cabinet. I had them grab the following paint code:

Behr Grenadine S-G-180

And mix in grey primer to darken it up a bit. Here's what they showed me today. It just looks more orange than red. How can I darken this up a bit, make it more RED than orange? Any thoughts. Can some of you with NEO GEO / Z-Backs help out. I'm paying these guys a lot of money and I want this to be right.

Thanks!

That does not look right (I am viewing on a calibrated sRGB display).

I have two suggestions for you...

Walmart - Lightining McQueen WDCR01

ACE Hardware - Deep Fire F13

Best of luck,

The above linked thread has some great info... if you can find that same paint, I could not in my area.

most quality paint places can punch that stuff into their computer and have it spit out their manufacturer specific code.

I read all of the NEO GEO threads and everyone kept saying Behr Grenadine SG180...which is what I told the guy to use.  Now it comes out looking more orange than red.   I'm wondering if they used grey primer or not, or if a second coat would help make it more red.

Does that WalMart paint exist?  THey've got paint named after a Disney Cars character?

The bher does have a little extra orange to it even with the primer. Looks pretty close unless you have a neo geo cab right next to it.

So after reading on how people suggested multiple coats, I checked with the guys making it and they spent half the day applying 8-10 coats to get it right before snapping these photos.  So it should be spot on with the Z-Back cabinet.  Also NEO GEO's are a bit more red than the Capcom cab...Making matters worse is trying to photograph RED under bright light.  Any yellow at all in the room, from a light source, and orange comes through.  So I feel like a dope complaining the color wasn't right to them. The more I look, the more I see they nailed the Z-Back red.
