Grayhound Jumbo Skill Crane

Hello all! This is my first post here.

I just picked up a Jumbo Skill Crane by Grayhound yesterday for $30. Everything appears to be complete, but I am having a couple of issues.

1) When plugged in the lights would come in when the switch was turned on, but nothing else. I tracked this down to a bad PSU. I temporarily stuck in an ATX power supply until I can take the PSU to work on Monday and check it out.

2) with the temp PSU hooked up the claw raised and returned to the home position where it continued to run. It is missing whatever is supposed to be there to activate the limit switch. Curious about whether there is an actual part I can order or if I should just rig something up.

3) The lights on the two buttons come on, but the coin mech does not appear to come on. I checked the bulbs and one appears blown, but the other seems to be ok other than the fact that it does not come on. The display that shows the credits and time also comes on and reads 00 on both displays. Putting in quarters does not appear to do anything.

Update on the status of this.

The Peter Chou USP-9 power supply is now fixed. Resistors R6 and R11 were both open. Replacing the two bad 330k resistors fixed it.

Still no luck with the coin mechanism. Any ideas??

I ordered replacements for all of the 74LS373 chips on the board and a new Z80 processor.

I was able to bend a small piece of metal to make an actuator for the limit switch at the home position.

I will continue to update my progress as I replace parts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

00 00 is a normal startup msg >no errors detected<
the coin mech in yours is a normal mechinal..to wires to the trip switch
ground and normaly open sides of the switch
without the manual ?
here is what u do
there is 1 switch that will put it into :test-mode:
7 or 8.? but the trick is to turn one of them on and cycle the power
once the reboot happens use the joy-stick to do all of your tests..
once u know all works right..turn switch off power cycle machine
it will return to normal

now onto the z80..easy trigger the suffix of the chip tells u the trick of the tail
ie z80-acp will not work where a z80-css was..
reason is some of them came with internal rom
which had some of the machine code in them
hence u swap out..but machine is now dead

the 74ls series is a very hardry bunch of chips

now home onto your crane this is done by again by a dip switch
on might = back
off might = front
the trick to the crane head
is to power off and move it by hand to lets say the other end
power up machine
the crane should cycle ..then come back to :home:, if it dose this
the the crane head is working right

Here is a photo of the board. You can see the Z80 and the numbers are clear enough to read. I do not see an acp or css...

Any thoughts?

The one that I bought is "Z84C0020PEC", I am assuming that this will not work. I should have paid more attention to the details I guess.

Just looked up the specs on the two part numbers.

The Z0840004PSC runs at 4 MHz.

The Z84C0020PEC runs at 20 MHz.

Thanks for the info. Can't believe that I spend hours at a time looking at spec sheets at work and screw up when it comes to my own parts.  :)
