P360 with Matrix
« on: November 20, 2003, 10:48:04 pm »
I was reluctant to ask this question, because there are so many P360 how-to questions.  However, I searched through the posts and couldn't find the answers.

The perfect 360 is easy to connect to a keyboard encoder because there is a common ground.    However, how can you use a P360 with a keyboard matrix hack?  I saw this post that said this was possible, but they did not explain how.

Also I saw this other post that stated you can't use a P360 with gamepads.  Anyone know if a P360 could work with a Dual Strike hack?

I wouldn't think a p360 will work with a keyboard hack because it requires a ground and 5v power. You could message sirp though because he said it could work. A keyboard matrix doesn't have a ground per say.

Most gamepads have a 5v power source and if they use a common ground the p360 should work. Why would you use a p360 with a dual strike? Isn't the dual strike usually used for analog hacks?
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

A dual strike has 13 buttons in addition to the 2 analog pots.  I plan on using 4 dual strikes (1 for gas/brake, 1 for yoke, 2 for recoil guns).  That's 52 buttons which would be enough for all my other controls.  The buttons work very much like a keyboard matrix.  Here is a modified schematic from 1up's site.  The up/left/down/right buttons on the dual strike are fired by shorting wires 12 to 9, 12 to10, 7 to 10 and 7 to 9 respectively.  I thought I could get by without a keyboard encoder.  Unfortunately, the P360's are a problem.  I was hoping there was a trick to making 'em compatible.

Here's the schematic.  I believe it was created by 1up, but I don't know who modified it.

Before you get to hacking, you might want to make sure that your Dual strikes are not going to change position every time you boot. That is a very common problem encountered when hacking more than one of the same joystick.

I guess the only way to hook up a P360 to a gamepad or a keyboard matrix is to use a low resistance analog switch.  It is a small 50 cent chip that acts like a relay.

How do people who have more than 1 Dual Strike hack guarantee that the joystick number assignment won't be arbitrary?
