Rowe AMI TI-2 Help
« on: October 25, 2013, 09:28:46 pm »
I bought a TI-2 from craigslist, wanted a jukebox.  I knew nothing about them.  I have learned a lot along the way but this is where I currently am.

The jukebox did not come with a pre-Amp so I bought a pre-amp from jukeboxparts.com.  Prior to having this the guy had an external pre-amp hooked up and everything worked you could play records but sound kinda sucked.  So I hooked up the pre-amp and now I get a loud hum through the speakers and when i play a record i get a lot of crackling and sounds like base is coming through the tweets just sounds horrid.  If I turn the bass knob on the pre-amp like inbetween the 3 selections the cracking goes away and I get a clean audio sound but the hum persists.  So my question is did they send me a bad pre-amp or do I have something else wrong?  Is there anything I can check or look at to see where the problem might be?

Thanks in advance,

Wes

Hi Wes,

Have a look at the number on the etched onto the printed circuit of the pre-amplifier and get back to me with the number. This number dictates what the wiring needs to be on the volume control.

Hello Wes,

That was the information I was asking for. The R-3788B board is the standard 2 wire none screened volume control. If the board had been a R-3805 then it would have required the 5 wire including screened cable for the volume control and if a screen is not used then it hums badly.

I would say that the pre-amp or your amplifier no doubt the R-4359A has a fault on it.

We do repairs to both the amplifiers and pre-amplifiers.

Regards
Alan
