Extending X-Arcade buttons
« on: November 20, 2003, 09:33:35 am »
Hi all,

I rencently picked up a capcom dynamo from a guy in Toronto sold it for 100 cnd empty with the coin box and a jamma connector.
I also have bought an x-arcade, creative speakers with volume control and have a 27inch jvc tv all ready to go in the cab. Everything is working perfect 100% outside the cab :)

I want to put the X-arcade controls in my cab, but the wires wont be long enough to reach in the cab since the control panel is longer and the joys are farther apart. I heard I am able to extend them but could someone tell me what kind of wire to use? gauge, type of wire, and to how to go about doing this as i have never tried before :)

Also I'm thinking of buying a happs 27" bezel, but will it fit considering I am using a Tv.

Thanks for the help guys, i can wait to post pics of the finished product ;)

Here a pic of he cab before i got it.

The X-arcade wire should be long enough to reach the bottom of the cab where your computer is going to be...   If it isn't you could extend it.  I used a Happ's 27' bezel with my TV and it worked out pretty good...  The more curved your TV is, the more flush the bezel will fit.

Also, since you already have the CP on your cab, why would you want to use an x-arcade? ???

I think he's talking about using the buttons and sticks out of the x-arcade into the new panel. The wires aren't long enough because the new panel is larger.

My first question is are you sure the wires aren't long enough?

Take a look inside your x-arcade. I had mine open last night but I don't remember how big a guage wire they used. I was tightening some of the buttons because they were a little loose. Yeah you can do that from the outside but it was mostly the p1 and p2 and if I turn them on the outside they wouldn't be level. Take your x-arcade with you to radio shack and buy the same diameter wire that it uses. I would recomend multistrand not solid. Then buy some crimp on connectors for that size wire that fit on the buttons. The guys at Radio Shack should be able to help with that if you can't figure it out. Then you need to decide how you want to extend them. I'd probably just cut the existing crimp on connectors off and twist them with the new wire and cover with shrink tubing but you could buy crimp connectors to do that or you could buy male ends to plug into the existing female ends on the wires. If your doing crimp on connectors invest the $10 into a cheap crimper, please don't use pliers or a hammer. If you do you'll be back here next week asking why one of buttons stopped working. :) If you plan to do a lot of crimping the better crimpers are worth the money. Like any other tool its a good investment.

If you don't have a radio shack most any auto parts store should have the wire and connections or a Super Store like Meijer or Walmart would likely have them. You could also order them online. Peale has a thread over in the buy/sell forum selling crimp on connectors.

If any of this isn't clear ask questions.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.
