My First CP (really want to rebuild it, though)
« on: November 20, 2003, 02:52:12 am »
I thought that I'd share my first cp with everyone (even though I'm liable to build a new one before too long).  I'm fairly happy with it but 1) I really think I need a 4-way dedicated stick for all those old school games, 2) I'm not really sure that using velcro to hold the cp top on was the best plan.  I would really like to hinge it.  Anyway, if you're still interested here it is.

Just wondering how you fit four people around that...isn't it a bit tight?

Looks good, what games do players 3 & 4 use 6 buttons for?

Players 3 & 4 only use buttons 5 & 6 for console emulation (Super NES, mostly).  Plus, player 3 buttons 5 & 6 are mapped to O and K respectively to get through those screens that pop up before some games in Mame.  The fit is fine since there is enough of an angle to set players 3 & 4 (outer players) a decent distance from 1 & 2.  1 & 2 seem like they might be a little tight and that is one thing that I want to change with my next revision.  I also think I may want to change it from 42" to 48" in length and move the trackball down.  I think then I should have enough room for dual spinners and a dedicated 4-way with 4 buttons beside it (classic diamond pattern).  Also want to add a bunch of detachable controls (Act-Labs Guns, Steering Wheels, Foot Pedals, etc..).

You can always just wiggle the joystick to get though that OK screen. No need for extra buttons mapped to O and K

I've had 4 players stand around it and simulte playing (player 4 still needs to be wired).  We fit well but I don't know how well it will work when we've been playing hours on end.  I know that I could've remapped some of the joystick directions to O and K but I figured since I had the buttons on there for the SuperNES emulation I might as well have a use for them in Mame.
