Help with setting up sticks and buttons
« on: October 12, 2013, 07:48:51 am »
Hi Guys,
I received my Mag-Stick Plus and gold leaf buttons, along with my gold leaf buttons and mini-pac. This morning I wired them all up using all connectors that I bought with the the mini-pac. I managed to get it all connected and plugged it into my pc. I ran the  WinIpac software, and all the buttons and stick seemed to work. I pressed a button, and the corresponding button lit up on the screen. I did notice it 8way mode, sometimes the microswitches wouldn't turn off. for example if I pressed down and then let it centre, there wouldn't be the microswitch "click" and the Winpac would say that down is still pressed. In 4way mode this was not an issue.
Anyway, still in 4 way mode, if I went to windows to test out mame, I noticed that all the windows pulldown menus etc were constantly cycling through. If I go to a popup window where the 2 options were ok or cancel, it would cycle through really fast. When I go to mame, again, it would cycle through the machines really fast. If I rebooted the pc, it would be fine, until I touch the joystick, and then it would start the cycling...

Am I doing something wrong? Was I wrong to think that the mini-pac  would just work??

Thanks in advance guys...

Nick

Sounds like you have a switch stuck that corresponds to up or down. Depending which way its scrolling.

Thanks for the reply. I thought that too, but it scrolls in both up and down. Having a normal keyboard in wouldnt aswell wouldnt cause this issue, would it??

Ok......
Right, it turns out I was being a right plonker  :o

I had connected the microswitches for the stick to the open instead of closed connector (or other way round). Now all fine .....

Thanks guys. Nick

"a right plonker"

Wow, never heard that one before. =)  Love regional dialects.

Anyway now that one issue has been sorted, I want to see what I can do about the microswitches on the mag-stick plus.
Is there a way on these sticks to change the sensitivity on the?  I need to increase the gap between the stick and switch. Anyone know how this can be achieved??
