CorollaCade - Toyota Promotional Sit down Driver
« on: October 09, 2013, 03:45:41 pm »
Toyota got with a dev team to create a retro style sit down driver featuring the new Corolla and using Oculus Rift

Not really very impressed with the cab, but good to see people cracking out the saws and paint in their driveway the way we all do.

Very disappointed in the post between the steering wheel and the floor.
Looks like plenty of skilled people there and they just screwed a playseat onto a deck.  :(

Very cool that they would undertake something like this, but with all of the seemingly talented people involved in this project it turned out looking pretty poopy... the final product looks half done.  Again it is cool that they decided to create a retro driving cab, but in terms of successfully pulling it off I think they missed the mark considerably.

So once again, we find that evil of the past seeps into the present like salad dressing through cheap wax paper, mixing memory and desire.

This could have been so much more. I'm sorry, but if you're in charge of a project such as this, and you don't give it the respect to research what a driving cab could even look like, you should have your ass handed to you by the communities that do. I haven't read the YouTube comments yet, but I certainly hope they're being given some 'colourful feedback'. It was impressive in the technology, don't get me wrong. Just don't bill it as a 'retro driving arcade' or anything close.

Typical "Marketing Dept." idea with a managerial "You have one month" mentality. They did what they could.
Doing arcades, the cheap@ss way!
