Groovy Game Gear and Paradise Arcade
« on: October 02, 2013, 07:33:56 pm »
I've emailed both Groovy Game Gear and Paradise Arcade a few nights ago and got no response.  I sent a follow up email this morning and still nothing.  I see their website is still up but are they still around since I am not getting any response.  I need to place an order for some parts soon.

I ordered from GroovyGameGear about a month ago and everything came, he should be around, probably just not checking email frequently.

Ordered from both at the beginning of last month.  Turn around for my orders was a little under a week.  No real problems.  Small orders.  Went smootly.

Both are great vendors, Randy (RandyT) from GGG and Bryan (Armi0024) and Susan from Paradise are active on the forums, and both companies stand behind their products.

Keep in mind that these are both small businesses (supporting a small community) and can't afford around-the-clock dedicated customer support staff.

What were you wanting to know about their product lines?

Plenty of us can answer most any questions you might have.   ;D

I emailed asking about the different brands and the quality and how they compare with others.

For example to Groovy Game Gear the difference between the joystick brands: GGG, Zippy, SpitFire and Happ?  The buttons are: ClassX, Arcade Prime and Happ?

Also, I'm in Vancouver, Canada and was wondering if anyone has had any issues buying from either one of the companies?

I didn't have any problem ordering from GGG, Took a little over a week for the orders to get here, I'm in Quebec.

I ordered the Omni 2 from GGG and I am happier with it than I am with my U360 from Ultimarc.  I have a weecade setup and I used the Omni 2 on my second player and my U360 on my first player.  While the U360 is an excellent stick I just needed something that didn't have a multi direction use.  I found that the Omni worked better for older games that had 2,4 way capabilities while the U360 was far superior for my 8 way or flight stick capabilities.  It is all really going to depend on what games you are going to use each product for.

Don't get me wrong.  I don't want this to turn into a 'this company makes a superior product while this guy over here makes junk' review.  Each company puts out excellent products and like I have said it all depends on your needs.  Just take a weekend, write down what games you think you will play the most and go on each website and do some in depth reading.  Every website (Ultimarc, Groovy Game Gear, Paradise, etc.) have in depth descriptions and reviews.  Whats better, have pictures that go along with their product.  I would also recommend going here for a good amount of product reviews and here to get a run down of controls for each game.  That way you can compile a list of all your games and draw conclusions on what you will need for controllers and you won't be spending $150 for a flight stick controller when all you needed was a good 4 way controller.

And if you still need a good review I would stick to places like this.  Any company can tell you they put out a superior product but until it is field tested and has been run through the dirt you won't be able to get a true idea of what each products capabilities are.  Good luck.

Considering that I don't see a request like this in my inbox, and you didn't get a response from the other vendor either, I'm suspecting an email problem somewhere along the line.

That aside, I could recommend parts, and often do, based on the types of games you would be playing most often, your budget, what you are used to, etc...  But this information really is necessary to even begin that process, and it still really ends up being a preference based decision in the end.  Jdbailey has offered good advice.  While a vendor can tell you what he likes, pros and cons for different setups, etc, you will be best served by doing some research on your own to make sure that the information isn't biased.

If you still need some input, feel free to try another time to email me, or send a PM here.

I'll probably be playing a lot of fighter games like Street Fighter series etc. Then the odd older games from the early 90s.

I'm kind of on a tight budgrt right now and it is the firstl cabinet/bartop I'm building so I probably won't know the difference betweena $10 joystick with a $40 joystick.

I can vouch for paradise arcade, best thing to do is call her cell based on the hours listed on website.  I just completed and order with Susan last week.  Once you get her on the phone and you let her know your sending emails she will look for them.  Very responsive, and quick to ship.

I have ordered from Randy(GGG) as well, he was very helpful and really knows his stuff.  I have some of his products in a 5 yr old machine and not one part has failed to this day...

So you both are fantastic and offer an array of quality products....You cant go wrong either way...
